Celebrity match in Jason Wu’s 2010 Spring collection

Okay let me be perfectly honest.  I am thrilled Michelle Obama’s wearing of a Jason Wu collection has thrown him into the national spotlight.  His Spring 2010 collection is to Die for and when I look at his fashions I see Michelle Obama and the 35 and over female,  looking elegant and classy.  However and most importantly I see a young 20 something Fashionista named Rhianna rocking this collection.

Check out the looks below which are just a few samples from Jason Wu’s Spring 2010 collection.   I see Rhianna in so many of his spring pieces, but these are the most Rhianna-ish.

Just imagine 5’9” Rhianna rocking these dresses with a skull necklace and dark lipstick.
This screams Rhianna.

Michelle Obama Style Icon?

Michelle Obama's casual elegance

Michelle Obama's casual elegance

Is Michelle Obama a style Icon?  I pose this question after reading several issues of Essence with her as the Cover or part of the cover.  Ann Wintour allowed the Michelle Obama to Grace the cover of Vogue.   The Huffington post has a section committed to the First Lady’s style.   The October 2009 issue of Instyle “The New Power Dressing”  has five pages devoted to her wardrobe and how the modern woman dresses for work.   The October issue of  Vogue, has an article written by William Norwich reporting on Michelle Obama welcoming National design award winners.    Have any other  First Ladies in our lifetime had such press on their style?

All this makes one wonder is Michelle Obama a style icon, trendsetter or does she even have real style?   One thing appears to be true, Michelle Obama is an intellectual like former First Lady and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.  Both are well educated Attorney’s who married men who were born under the  Leo astrological sign, whom are both charismatic and driven.   It may be safe to say that Hillary may not be considered a style Icon, but maybe the possible leader of the pants suit.

Michelle is obviously different from other first ladies by being the first African American to hold this title.  She is not the youngest First Lady, but is one of the Youngest.  Jacqueline Kennedy was younger and definitely turned the fashion world on its heals!

What makes Michelle Obama’s style noteworthy is that she has style when it is necessary.   Is she always stylish, definitely not!  I thought Mrs. Obama’s black skirt and white shirt when visiting the pope was tacky.   I did not like the dress she wore when she met the Queen of England.  I really disliked the multi colored cardigan she wore to talk to school girls in London and I could go on about what I perceive to be Michelle Obama’s misses with her fashion choices.   What’s facisnating about Michelle Obama is when she scores with a fashion choice,  she hits it out of the ball park!   Michelle may have put JCrew on the map as the trendy, affordable, classic clothing chain for working mothers who want to be comfortable and stylish without trying too hard.   The magnificent gown she wore the evening of the inauguration has made Jason Wu one of the hottest new designers on the planet.  Jason Wu had heavy coverage during fashion week this month and is one of six featured designers in Glamour magazines October issue.  In essence Michelle Obama’s style may not be impeccable, but her touch is that of Midas.
